It’s Gas Safety Week (8-14 September) – an important reminder of why working with gas must always be carried out safely. UK Regulations require all persons working with gas to either be instructed (supervised) or skilled (unsupervised and qualified to sign off gas work).
In the leisure vehicle industry not all gas work requires you to be Gas Safe-registered. Being required to complete your ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) training and register for Gas Safe can be time-consuming and costly. If you are working on privately-owned touring caravans and motorcaravans, you need to ensure you are ‘skilled’ by taking and passing the STGW (Standards of Training in Gas Work) gas course. This also applies to manufacturers and converters who are installing a new gas system and testing with air.
However, if you are working on touring caravans and motorcaravans that are used for hire and reward, then you must be Gas Safe-registered. The same applies if you are working on holiday caravans, residential park homes and catering units.
The NCC Training Academy offers a range of accredited qualifications to suit individual needs:
All of these courses are accredited qualifications. They add a layer of protection to you and your business and demonstrate to customers you are responsible. At the NCC we will continue to promote and encourage gas training through the Training Academy and the Approved Workshop Scheme, while spreading awareness of our unique industry and deepening understanding of Gas Safe requirements.
