Zero Hour Contracts – consultation
Published on 22/01/2014

The Government has published a consultation on the use of “zero hour contracts”

which are important for many tourism-related businesses where customer numbers can fluctuate significantly over short periods.

The Government is seeking views on a number of proposals arising out of the earlier review of such contracts including:

  • proposals to potentially ban the use of exclusivity clauses in contracts that offer no guarantee of work
  • guidance on the fair use of exclusivity clauses
  • an employer-led Code of Practice on the fair use of exclusivity clauses
  • new advice and guidance to improve transparency around the use of zero hours contracts for employers and employees
  • an employer-led Code of Practice to cover the fair use of zero hours contracts and possible model clauses for such contracts

The consultation runs until 13th March 2014 click here.
